Characteristics of Nihombashi
Nihombashi has flourished as a commercial area since the Edo period (1603-1867).
After the Meiji period (1868-1912), the area became the centre of the Japanese economy due to the concentration of financial institutions, and developed into a more commercial area. The area is also home to a number of nationally important cultural assets and historical buildings, including the namesake "Nihonbashi", and retro Western architecture such as the Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Store, the Bank of Japan Main Store Old Building and the Mitsui Main Building.
In recent years, the area has been attracting attention as a business district, with office buildings lining the streets and the headquarters of large corporations and listed companies setting up their offices.
Around the station there are large complexes such as the Nihombashi Takashimaya and COREDO Muromachi, as well as 12 regional antenna shops which sell regional foods and products, making it a great place to enjoy lunchtime or after work shopping.

About Nihombashi-Kobunacho
Tensho Office Nihombashi is located in the middle of Nihombashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
In the Keicho period, it was a town where many boats from Osaka arrived and went around. At that time, it was one of the most important wholesale districts in Edo with many wholesale stores such as cotton thread wholesalers, shipping wholesalers, dried bonito flakes wholesalers and fan wholesalers.
In addition to wholesalers, the area was also lined with stores. After the Meiji era (1868-1912), the town became home to many people in the financial industry and industrialists, and Zenjiro Yasuda, the founder of the Mizuho Financial Group, opened the "Yasuda Shoten," a business specializing in money exchange, and founded the "Yasuda Bank" in 1880. Today, it is operated as the Kobunacho Branch of Mizuho Bank, and there is a monument next to the branch that reads "The Founding Place of Fuji Bank", making it a town with a rich history of commerce and vibrant people.
